WRITE A GENERAL BIOGRAPHY OF AN ORGANISATION
Full Name:Royal New Zealand Foundation For The Blind
Date of formation:1890
A short history: The RNZFB was founded in 1890, and was called The Jubilee Institute for the blind at the time. The first service they decided to provide schooling and residence for the blind, in Parnell. They then went on to provide a blind friendly instatute for the blind. This foundation continues now.
what do they want to achieve:
the RNZFB want blind and vision impaired people to have the same opportunities and choices as other citizens
What services do they provide
The RNZFB provide services for the blind. An example of this would be training: Poodle, German Shepherd, labrador and Golden Retriever puppies for blind people to get around independantly .
A specific example of this agency in action: Jonathan Godfrey was a New Zealander who was an unfortunate man as he has been blind since he was two. He was doing great in university and the RNZFB trained a German Shepherd to help giude him around the campus.

ASSESS AND EVALUATE THE VIRTUES DISPLAYED BY THIS AGENCY Write a list of five virtues that this agency displays. Underneath each virtue list examples of how they might action this virtue. You also need to state how you could emulate the same virtue in your life.
Kindness- The RNZFB shows kindness by training Guide dogs for blind people, for nothing in return. We could show kindness by helping out around the house without being asked and without expecting something in return.
Respect- The RNZFB shows respect by helping them because they help them because they know how unfortunent they are and the loss of vision is no fault of their own. We could show respect by not laughing st people who are different.
Compassion- The foundation we have chosen shows compassion by loving what they do and doing their work without pay voluntarily. We could show compassion by caring for a total stranger if they fell over.
Caring-the RNZFB shows caring by volunteers spending their time to help the blind and not want anything in return. We can show caring by...helping someone that has fallen behind in there work.
Commitment- The RNZFB staff shows commitment by working 24/7 to raise money for their foundation. We could show commitment by...doing our work and handing it in on time.
VISUAL LANGUAGE TASK
Create a pictorial collage which reflects the virtues displayed by your chosen agency.
Design a fund-raising event poster for your chosen agency.
Write a PMI (positives, minus & interesting) for your chosen agency. Try to have at least 5 bullet points for each category.
POSITIVES
blind people can be independant so they don't need to depend on other people to help them get around.
not only is is it good for the blind person to get a guide dog its also a good thing for the guide dog because they know they will have a caring loving owner.
it lets the blind or vision-impared person to be more independant being able to read write and walk around without anybody walking with.
guide dogs can go almost anywhere so blind people with guide dogs dont need to worry about not being able to go some where because there guide dog is nt allowed.
guide dogs are trained to be gentle and careful so it isnt a problem with guide dogs being matched up with children.
MINUS
Each guide dog costs over $22,500 to breed, raise, train and match to a blind person.
it takes about 2 years to train just one guide dog
they dont have a home page for just guide dogs so it makes it hard if someone wanted to do some research on it.
108 puppies were bred in 2005/2006 and only 37 guide dogs graduated and 16 were matched and pending graduation in 2005/2006
if some guide dogs dont graduate from there training the RNZFB has to put some time into trying to find a home for the ex-guide dogs
INTERESTING FACTS
number of working guide dogs in New Zealand:273
the library for the blind holds 8,223 tlking book titles and 8,529 braille titles
the only places guide dogs cant go are kitchens and burn sections in hospitals because there is to much higher risk of infection for the patient
guide dogs wear a special red coat so that you no that they are a guide dog
they put certain patterns on coin so blind people know how much money they are handing over.
